Hello everyone,

Now that we’ve moved to a new forum please do not think the old one is lost. It’s still there and can be browsed at your leisure, you just can’t add any new comments to it.

Here it is: Old forum, Movie Quiz Vol. 1

So we continue as normal with our movie quiz. I’ll repost the start of the quiz in the previous forum:

On the 26th of November 2005, Ataris wrote:

It’s quite simple actually, I post a picture from a movie and the person who comes with the right answer posts a new picture. However, there are a couple of rules:

- The person who posted the picture need to confirm a right answer before a new picture can be posted
- To keep the quiz going, the person who came with right answer has to post a new picture within 3 days of confirmation, or else anyone can post a new picture
- If possible the movie the picture is taken from should be available for most people
- If the correct answer hasn’t been posted within 2-3 days after the picture was posted you need to come with either a hint or post another screenshot from the same movie.
- The aspect ratio should not differ a lot from the original aspect ratio. Furthermore the pictures shouldn’t be manipulated.

The rules listed above can be adjusted if necessary.

Pictures can be uploaded at http://imageshack.us/
Modified by Ardvark: any website is good, flickr, fotopic, your own site, anything as long as you can post a link to it.

Modified by Ardvark:
This is the list of all movies which have been used so far. I will try and keep this updated, and they are currently in order of being guessed right. Please note that there is NO rule against re-using a movie!

Also there has been a little change in the rules:

I’ve noticed some people would like to participate but refrain from doing so because winning would mean they’d have to post a screenshot.
I can understand posting screenshots may be somewhat of a hassle for people, especially if you don’t have a place on the internet to dump them on (or don’t know how to). Or maybe you’re just out of ideas on what to post.

For this reason I’d like to suggest that if you want to guess the picture but don’t want to post a screenshot, you just add

“Free-for-all”

after your guess.

This “free-for-all” signal will mean that (if the guess was right) whoever wants to post the next screenshot can do so.

Oh, and recently we went from 1 movie to 3 movies at the same time. So chances are you’ll know at least one of them!

Anyway, the list so far can be found in this post and the next. HAVE FUN!!!

Just thought I’d put a place for the forumites to plug aspects of their life or other endeavours that may be of interest to the forum crowd.

For Example - Since December 2006, I’ve been doing a weekly ‘Cinecast’ Internet podcast on more mainstream cinema with Moviepatron.com of which the archive can be found here: http://www.moviepatron.com/page5.html

Also, in association with Movie Patron, Film Junk, The Documentary Blog and Mad About Movies, there has been an experiment started called “The Movie Club” which is a recording/round-table of various film folks who watch a movie, then gather to discuss (and record the session) - kinda like a book club. This is a monthly thing, possibly with different folks as it goes along. The first episode, where we do Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai and Little Children can be found here: http://www.filmjunk.com/2007/10/05/introducing-a-new-monthly-podcast-the-movie-club/

So anyone out there that does, hmmm, one sheet art, commercial work, DVD commentary or translation or what-not, please post updates/info here!

Assuming of course that some of us folks here do enjoy the odd session of button bashing on the PC/Console. I was lucky enough to get a Playstation 3 for my birthday last week and so I’ve been enjoying Stranglehold, Devil May Cry 4, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. The main hook for me in owning a PS3 comes in the form of Metal Gear Solid 4 - of which the more I see the more I’m anticipating the release next month.

So what are you guys playing/what would you recommend?

Original

I sadly didn’t get to see Original at my local cinema. The theatrical run appears to have been limited, but I did stumble upon it by chance at the national movie rental franchise.

So what’s my first impression then? Well, first of I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Not because I expected it to be bad, but because it exceeded my expectations, something that’s always nice when watching a movie. The tone was also a bit more serious than expected, but that also turned out to be a pleasant surprise.
The story centers around Henry (named after both Henry Fonda and Henry Ford), a young man who after a brief recollection of his childhood, the death of his father and his mother slipping into a fantasy world out of grief, finally has managed to convince himself that he’s living a perfectly normal and ideal life.
Turns out things aren’t exactly that easy. In what feels like a minute or two he loses his girlfriend, his job and his apartment
And he then ends up deciding to start a restaurant in Spain with the client, Jon, who cost him his job at the bank.
And that’s just the beginning.
While going around making a home movie at IKEA in an attempt to maintain the illusion his mother is living in about her son being a successful military officer with a modern home and a beautiful wife, he meets Marie.
She is a bit of a radical feminist with a tendency to dress as Rosie the Riveter at occasion. Has a bird called Man Eater and makes her own brand of concussion-inducing feminist electro.
These are our main characters.
The story circles around the subjectivity of reality, being yourself and making your own decisions, hypnotherapy, cooking, a Danish gangster who looks like Elvis, his father who looks like a fisherman but is in fact a mafia boss of sorts, to name a few.
The likelihood of getting bored seems unlikely, but what might be a problem for some is the fact that the story tends to skip more like in television and suddenly place us somewhere else. I didn’t think it was a problem, but it might make it harder to immerse yourself in the illusion. This might depend on how much tv-time you chose to add to your movie-time though.
Although I felt the drama was more in focus the comedy was always present. Otherwise it might have slipped into more of a tragic tone, something that might have worked too, but it wouldn’t have been the same movie. And as it is now it’s a fun and somewhat thought-provoking movie from a Scandinavia that has surprised me with a lot of good viewing lately. Hopefully we can keep this up and show that the before-mentioned Scandinavian invasion was more than a hit and run.

Just watched it and decided to try and write a review. Criticism on the review itself would be welcome. Would talking about the technical aspects such as video, sound, editing, etc. be good or bad? I would have included it, but felt it was getting a bit long.
If you’ve got questions about the movie feel free to throw em in as well.

Some friends and I have been working on a blog/podcast for a few months now. We officially launched the site the beginning of August and also put the podcast portion up on iTunes. We’re a bunch of newbs when it comes to this whole thing and would definitely appreciate any and all feedback. My brother put a lot of time and effort into designing/organizing the website and would also like to know what you guys think.

We’re mostly trying to focus on reviews of movies, asian cinema, anime, and video games while throwing in our own personal brand of humor and attitude whenever we can. Our goal is to update the site multiple times during the week so there’s always something new. I think we’ve learned a lot in a short amount of time but we still have a long way to go.

If you’re willing to let us know what you think than please leave comments on the specific blogs, email us at gethard at thehardcast dot com or just reply to this thread.

Hard Cast Prime Episode 0 is a good intro podcast to start with since it basically introduces everyone and gives a taste of what we’re trying to do.

Thanks A lot!
